Book Blogger Confessions is a meme every 1st and 2nd Monday hosted by Karen from For What It’s Worth and the Midnyte Reader.
It’s where book bloggers “confess” and vent about topics that are unique to us.
Feel free to share, vent and offer solutions, and remember to visit For What It’s Worth or the Midnyte Reader for other confessions!
This week’s confession:
Do participating in book tours/cover reveals and author guests post drive traffic to your blog? What type of problems have you encountered when hosting them? (please keep it civil – no names or calling specific people out) As a blog follower, are you ever turned off by these kinds of posts? How much publicity is too much?
I haven’t taken part in any book tours or cover reveals yet, although I have done one author interview. The traffic spiked when Brynn Myers answered some questions on the Moonlight Library but not dramatically so.
I have recently been looking into taking part in some cover reveals but I am wary of putting my trust in another person’s content because what if I hate the cover? Or what if the cover is ugly and looks cheap and I’ve put my faith and my name behind helping to promote this book and it’s just really disappointing?
I have also been looking into participating in some book tours but my schedule’s pretty chockers at the moment and nothing I am really excited about has cropped up on some of the better-known book tour blogs so I haven’t participated.
But the biggest thing to say I guess is that to participate just to get traffic to your blog? I think that’s cheap. I’ve seen blogs whore themselves out to be nothing but cover reveals and not write a book review in months. If there’s a lifestyle problem and you’ve fallen behind in review content then that’s OK but if you’re doing it just for the traffic and your heart and soul isn’t in your blogging then what exactly is the point? Numbers? We are constantly told not to worry about traffic or followers or anything like that.
I won’t participate just to get more views on my blog, and that’s why I haven’t yet. If something crops up that I’m excited about, I’ll try to get involved.
It also doesn’t help that I normally find out about book tours way too late >.<
