April Wrap Up

month 04

News

Last month I explained how my husband’s accidental switch-up on anti-depressants made him suicidal and I had to take time off work to make sure he didn’t kill or hurt himself. Honestly, there’s not much change this month either. He’s still adjusting to his proper medication and his psychologist appointments were too far apart to really speed the healing process up, so he’s fluctuating wildly even day by day. He can wake up feeling fine enough to not need supervision and then his mood will drop harshly within a few hours and he needs me home.

A sweet, dear Goodreads friend of mine called Loki passed away unexpectedly. I’m not coping with life very well at the moment so I haven’t been able to offer comfort to all of my friends and Loki’s family. I do think about her a lot. A few years ago another Goodreads friend passed, and I think of her often. The online friends you make whom you never meet can be just as close as family, and I miss these two young women tremendously. They’ve shown me how delicate life is, and I’m determined to keep my husband alive.

Also, my poor darling grandfather, who took a fall last month and broke his femur, humerus and several ribs, passed away. I’m so sad. I can’t even. I just cry on and off. This past few months have just been so shitty.

I’ve been trying to work more from home, but I work in IT and I only have one screen at home, and the team really needs me back at work for a project using my usual dual monitors setup, so I’ve been stressing about work and leave. On the negative side, I think I’m struggling with depression myself. I don’t really want to read despite having a strict ARC schedule. I just want to spend all day in bed watching Power Rangers on Netflix.

Good news is that although Husband and I have been navel-gazing while we deal with his illness, some friends we haven’t seen in ages have reached out to us, which I’m really grateful for. I don’t normally complain or even admit to doing it tough in life, mostly because I’ve lived in poverty in a foreign country, but in these circumstances I don’t mind admitting that it’s really rough and we’re both having a really hard time of it.

March Wrap Up

Book Reviews:

So I didn’t get to read as much as I would have liked this month, and the books I read were all kind of average.

  •  The Fast and the Furious 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7. Thank you, Husband!
  • Had a massive Disney-a-thon, including: Mulan, The Little Mermaid (twice), The Lion King, Frozen and Tangled.
  • The Avengers: Age of Ultron, which was well worth the wait.
  • Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2
  • Ghostbusters 1 & 2
  • Binge watched Daredevil on Netflix – it was AMAZING.
  • Binge re-watched Ja’mie Private School Girl because it’s hilarious, bitches.
  • Game of Thrones – excellent, as usual.
  • Husband watched Iron Chef America while I worked from home so I’ve seen quite a few episodes of that, too.
  • Am also going through the complete Power Rangers series on Netflix – there’s about 20 different series. It’s going to take me a while.
  • The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers film, even though it’s not canon.
  • Some random documentaries about predator animals on Netflix. This was the day my grandfather died. I made a nest on the couch and watched nature do its thing.

Just when I thought I’d missed out, Bloomsbury sent me A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas. Thank you, Bloomsbury, you really made a sad girl’s day!

Oh, Nemo. All my deepest sympathies for the loss of your grandfather. That’s so hard. I’ll be holding you in my thoughts.

I’m really sorry to hear that your husband is still having so much trouble, too. My husband has had some major mental/emotional issues, too, so I know how very tough and isolating it is. And I’ve suffered from major depression myself. I’m not surprised that you’re struggling with some depression as well, because you’re under such a load of stress. Honestly, I’d be amazed if you *weren’t* feeling run down and overwhelmed. I’m so glad to hear about your friends reaching out to you; every little bit of good helps in this situation.

I wish there were anything more useful I could tell you or do for you. I really hope your husband’s condition improves soon. And if it’s any help at all, your online voice has brought a lot of bright spots into my life over the past year (which is not meant to pressure you about keeping up the blogging!) and I’m really glad to have bumped into you on Goodreads last May. Please take care of yourself as best you can.

Thank you for your sweet words, they are much appreciated. It’s so nice to be able to share this and have someone put up their hand and say, “I’ve been there, it gets better.”

I will continue to blog – I don’t seem to be able to stop. It’s nice to have something to be able to concentrate on/distract myself with while I’m off work.
