Stacking The Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality.
It’s all about sharing the books we’ve picked up for the week, whether they are bought, borrowed, gifted, galleys, physical or virtual.
Share your shelves and remember to visit Tynga’s Reviews where it all started to find more great books!
This is a very special edition of Stacking the Shelves. Not only is is my 150th STS post, it’s also my birthday! YAY!
Let’s see what I’ve picked up in the last week.
For Review
Thanks to Scholastic Australia for these gorgeous goodies!
When a brilliant high-school student is invited to join an international secret society, she leaves everything behind in pursuit of the high-stakes rewards it offers.
Four selected students are pitted against each other to push the boundaries of medicine using illegal self-experimentation. Miri discovers her boyfriend is also in the society and they must pretend they don’t know each other, or risk expulsion, and more. But when they realise that a fifth student is secretly experimenting alongside them, the stakes are raised dramatically. Now they must decide how far they will go…and some, it seems are willing to go much farther than others.
The fourth and final installment in the spellbinding series from the irrepressible, #1 New York Times bestselling author Maggie Stiefvater.
All her life, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love’s death. She doesn’t believe in true love and never thought this would be a problem, but as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she’s not so sure anymore.
This came in the most gorgeous hardcover. Now I own books #1 and #4 so I need to get the other two. I really like Maggie’s writing so I think I’ll really enjoy this series.

Courage comes from a shadowed place in our hearts; a blurred line that straddles love and sheer stupidity.
To seventeen-year-old Ava, wild woodcats, hungry stragglers, and simple-minded townsfolk are the evils she’s grown accustomed to. But when Ethan, an unusual man with eyes of smoke and fire opal, enters her world she quickly understands that there are worse things out there than drunken men and carnivorous forest creatures. She’s a specialised liar and a hell of a fighter, but against a group of animalistic men called Berserkers she struggles to survive the encounter as the desperate swing of a dagger is all it takes to change her life for good.
Half-dead and hunted by the Berserker’s leader when he forms a monstrous obsession with her, Ava escapes his pursuit in an unfamiliar land full of impossible creatures, unlikely allies, and the man she doesn’t know whether to kiss or kill.
But after dreadful news of her missing brother surfaces, Ava becomes more involved in the centuries-long war and begins to unravel the reasons behind her relentless nightmares, discovering truths long-buried in a violent history of love, loss and betrayal.
This is why I love the ‘Readers also enjoyed’ section of Goodreads. It helps me find similar books to ones I’ve really enjoyed. Right now I have this need to acquire books similar to Amanda Bouchet’s A Promise of Fire, with a lead magical female and a pursuer who may or may not be romantic.
What would you do to bring back someone you love? After the unexpected loss of his girlfriend, a boy suffering from delusions believes he can travel through time to save her in this gripping new novel from New York Times bestselling author Beth Revis.
Seventeen-year-old Bo has always had delusions that he can travel through time. When he was ten, Bo claimed to have witnessed the Titanic hit an iceberg, and at fifteen, he found himself on a Civil War battlefield, horrified by the bodies surrounding him. So when his concerned parents send him to a school for troubled youth, Bo assumes he knows the truth: that he’s actually attending Berkshire Academy, a school for kids who, like Bo, have “superpowers.”
At Berkshire, Bo falls in love with Sofia, a quiet girl with a tragic past and the superpower of invisibility. Sofia helps Bo open up in a way he never has before. In turn, Bo provides comfort to Sofia, who lost her mother and two sisters at a very young age.
But even the strength of their love isn’t enough to help Sofia escape her deep depression. After she commits suicide, Bo is convinced that she’s not actually dead. He believes that she’s stuck somewhere in time — that he somehow left her in the past, and now it’s his job to save her.
In her first contemporary novel, Beth Revis guides readers through the mind of a young man struggling to process his grief as he fights his way through his delusions. As Bo becomes more and more determined to save Sofia, he has to decide whether to face his demons head-on, or succumb to a psychosis that will let him be with the girl he loves.
Check out this amazing cover! I read Revis’ Across the Universe and enjoyed it, although I never did get around to finishing the trilogy, and this sounded so heartbreaking and intriguing I bought it for myself as an early birthday present. Also, the blurb is REALLY long. LOL.
