Northern Lights: The Graphic Novel

Northern Lights: The Graphic Novel by Phillip Pullman, Stéphane Melchior-Durand and Clément Oubrerie

Follow Lyra’s story once again in a way you’ve never experienced it before, as the arrival of her fearsome uncle, Lord Asriel, draws her to the heart of a terrible struggle — a struggle born of Gobblers and stolen children, witch clans and armoured bears.

Lyra hurtles toward danger in the cold far North, never suspecting the shocking truth, that she alone is destined to win, or to lose, this more-than-mortal battle.

We’ve already got two different versions of this book (from before my husband and I met) so what’s one more?

Shift (Shift, #1)

Shift by Kim Curran

When your average, 16-year old loser, Scott Tyler, meets the beautiful and mysterious Aubrey Jones, he learns he’s not so average after all. He’s a ‘Shifter’. And that means he has the power to undo any decision he’s ever made. At first, he thinks the power to shift is pretty cool. But as his world starts to unravel around him he realises that each time he uses his power, it has consequences; terrible unforeseen consequences. Shifting is going to get him killed. In a world where everything can change with a thought, Scott has to decide where he stands.

At some point, and I can’t recall when, I tried to purchase the entire Shift series by Kim Curran. However, my orders of the first and third book were refunded. I don’t recall the full details – it may have been when Strange Chemistry closed? So I could only get the second book in the series, and I’ve had it for years. Well, on a whim I decided to complete my collection, even though it has been republished for a while now. Now I have a complete trilogy from a boy’s point of view, and I’m proud of that because I’m generally not a fan of stories told from male points of view.

Delete (Shift, #3)

Delete (Shift #3) by Kim Curran

The country is at war. Beset by enemies within and without. And all because of the decisions changed by one boy, Scott Tyler. In this ravaged alternative world, Scott hardly recognizes himself. He’s a war hero, a leader of a unit of Shifters and maybe the only one who can prevent the country’s frail defenses from crumbling.

But all Scott wants to do is find a way back to the reality he knew, without losing the girl he loves. With every Shift he makes, Scott edges closer towards oblivion. With no one to trust – not even himself – how much is he willing to risk to get home?
