A blogger called Lia from Lost in a Story created a kind of meme thingy called Down the TBR Hole that aims to cut your TBR pile of the books you no longer want to read and remind yourself of the ones you do want to read.
- Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5-10 (or more if you’re feeling adventurous) books.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
Culling the TBR Pile This Week:
Vassa in the NIght by Sarah Porter
While I am a fan of Baba Yaga retellings, I think this book might be just a little bit too weird for me. I’m looking for un-put-down-able 5 star reads, and this one got quite a lukewarm reception from my friends due to its original weirdness. Not for me. This one is getting culled.
Bound by Blood and Sand by Becky Allen
This one’s not doing it for me, either. Although it has magic and a girl coming into her power, I’m not really into slave narratives. This one is getting culled.
My Unscripted Life by Lauren Morrill
I know that the main love interest is supposed to be rude for a reason, but I’m really not into girls who are into guys who are really fucking rude to them and she still pants after him like a dog in heat. So this one is getting culled.
Bombshell by Rowan Maness
So the blurb screams catfish, and I’m no longer interested in reading about that. I mean I am into drama and angst and rich white girl problems, but this one isn’t appealing to me anymore. If that’s wrong, then that’s the blurb’s fault. This one is getting culled.
A matter of magic by Patricia C Wrede
This is going to sound terrible but I just can’t be bothered anymore. Sorry book, I’m sure there’s lots of people out there who love you. This one is getting culled.
Flecks of Gold by Alicia Buck
Inherit the Stars by Tessa Elwood
Pass on this one too. Culled.
The Ruins of Ambrai by Melanie Rawn
900 pages and series incomplete after 20 years? I have sympathy for writers with depression, but I can’t commit to this. This one is getting culled.
Vivian Apple at the End of the World by Katie Coyle
Sounds intriguing but it doesn’t appeal to me anymore. This one is getting culled.
Nemesis by Anna Banks
While re-reading the blurb I was kind of thinking, Yeah, maybe? But then I read a review from a trusted friend who revealed the main character is just another special snowflake and I’m exhausted just thinking about it, really. This one is getting culled.
Kept: 0 (lol)
