For Review

Halrequin Australia loves me so much they gave me a paperback copy of this for review:

Captivate

In a glittering underwater world, nothing is as it seems…

For the past twelve months since her parents’ death, seventeen-year-old Miranda Sun has harboured a dark secret — a secret that has strained the close relationship she once shared with her older sister, Lauren. In an effort to repair this broken bond, Miranda’s grandparents whisk the siblings away on a secluded beach holiday. Except before Miranda gets a chance to confess her life-changing secret, she’s dragged underwater by a mysterious stranger while taking a midnight swim.

Awakening days later, Miranda discovers that she’s being held captive in a glittering underwater city by an arrogant young man named Marko…the King of this underwater civilisation.

Nineteen-year-old Marko intends to marry Miranda in order to keep his crown from falling into the sinister clutches of his half-brother, Damir. There’s only one problem. Miranda is desperate to return home to right things with her sister and she wants nothing to do with Marko. Trying to secure her freedom, Miranda quickly forms an alliance with Robbie — Marko’s personal guard. However, she soon discovers that even underwater, people are hiding dangerous secrets…

I love the idea of underwater worlds and this cover combined with that blurb – and love-triangly as it sounds – really made me want to read it. thanks, Harlequin Australia!

Incidentally, there’s a giveaway for NZ/AUS residents running on Goodreads until 15 December for this book, so have at it!

It Felt Like A Kiss

Meet Ellie Cohen, one of the most perfect girls in London.

Ellie manages a swank Mayfair gallery, but it’s her life that’s a real work of art. Great job, really good hair, loyal friends, loving family. It’s only her succession of lame duck boyfriends that ruin the picture.

Oh, and the world-famous rock-star father she’s never met, who won’t even acknowledge her existence.

Then Ellie’s perfect life is smashed to pieces when her secret is sold to the highest bidder and her name, face (and pictures of her bottom) are splashed across the tabloids. Suddenly everyone thinks she’s a gold-digging, sex-crazy, famewhore.

Enter David Gold. Charming and handsome David Gold. On paper he’s even more perfect than Ellie, if only he wasn’t her father’s ruthlessly ambitious lawyer whose job is to manage the crisis – and her. He certainly doesn’t think that Ellie’s the innocent party and she doesn’t trust him at all. So why is it that every time they’re alone together, damage limitation is the last thing on their minds?

Absolutely loved Manning’s Adorkable. It was so refreshing to see such real people on the page. Hopefully this will be more of the same. I think it’s a little more grown-up than I normally like but I do love Manning, so we’ll see.

Purchased

Dark Triumph (His Fair Assassin, #2)

When Sybella arrived at the doorstep of St Mortain half mad with grief and despair the convent were only too happy to offer her refuge—but at a price. The sisters of this convent serve Death, and with Sybella naturally skilled in both the arts of death and seduction, she could become one of their most dangerous weapons.

But her assassin’s skills are little comfort when the convent returns her to the life that nearly drove her mad. Her father’s rage and brutality are terrifying, and her brother’s love is equally monstrous. But when Sybella discovers an unexpected ally she discovers that a daughter of Death may find something other than vengeance to live for . . .

I realised I was reaching the limit of my ‘only purchase 26 books in 2013’ resolution from New Year’s, so I wanted to make it count and get something I was really looking forward to. I really enjoyed Book 1: Grave Mercy, so I expect this one to eat up a weekend sometime soon.

Perfect Ruin (Internment Chronicles, #1)

On the floating city of Internment, you can be anything you dream. Unless you approach the edge.

Morgan Stockhour knows getting too close to the edge of Internment, the floating city in the clouds where she lives, can lead to madness. Even though her older brother, Lex, was a Jumper, Morgan vows never to end up like him. If she ever wonders about the ground, and why it is forbidden, she takes solace in her best friend, Pen, and in Basil, the boy she’s engaged to marry.

Then a murder, the first in a generation, rocks the city. With whispers swirling and fear on the wind, Morgan can no longer stop herself from investigating, especially once she meets Judas. Betrothed to the victim, he is the boy being blamed for the murder, but Morgan is convinced of his innocence. Secrets lay at the heart of Internment, but nothing can prepare Morgan for what she will find – or whom she will lose.

I wanted this book since release, but I desperately wanted this particular cover. The Book Depository wasn’t adding it any time soon, so I ended up using Good Books International (all profits to charity!). I love DeStefano’s writing and am sure I will love this, too.

I just started Captivate last night and so far, it’s actually pretty good! I’m about 80 or so pages in and I love the premise. I’m a bit scared of the romance that might be coming but hopefully, it’ll be sweet rather than annoying. Hope you enjoy all your new goodies, happy reading!

Can you believe I actually had to track it down? It was hard to find this cover and get it all the way to me in Australia. I couldn’t find it in any of my local bookshops.

LOL! Pretty covers can do that to us poor readers. I’ve been staying away from feedback on Perfect Ruin – I want to go into it as a blank slate.

It’s the UK cover and it might be the Australian cover as well. I tried to find it in my local bookshops but was forced to buy it online to get this cover.
