Top Ten Best/Worst Movie Adaptations
I’m not going to mention any of the Twilight films, Harry Potter films or any of the big budget films currently in production like the Hunger Games. I’m going for less common, slightly older films films.

Book Blather
Lol, I loved Hook and thought Percy Jackson was good! I have no taste… 🙂
Nemo
I’m not saying they are BAD FILMS (except for Inkheart and Eragon, they were fucking awful) but they are bad ADAPTATIONS.
Book Blather
Hmm, not sure Hook was meant as a straight forward adaption… Which reminds me, I need to track down a copy of the YA book about Tiger Lily that came out this year. Thanks for that nudge! 🙂
Nemo
No worries! Except that Hook was more like fanfiction and was really a baseball movie…
Book Blather
Lol, yep! 🙂
Belle
I love Hook! I really love that Peter Pan movie too, I kinda forgot about it, time for a rewatch! I was really sad that they didn’t make any more Lemony Snicket’s movies.
Nemo
Yeah me too about Lemony Snicket. I really loved that one they did. I absolutely adore Hogan’s adaptation of Peter Pan. It’s by far my favourite version.
ChrissiReads
Completely forgot about the Peter Pan films. They were well adapted! Great list.
Nemo
I totally loved PJ Hogan’s version, with the delectable Jason Isaacs as Mr Darling/Hook. Amazeballs.
kelley
I like how you set your post up and would agree with you on most of your choices. Although I did like Hook. And Shrek is the best–I had no idea it was a book too. Kelley at the road goes ever ever on
Nemo
Hook is not a bad film, just a bad adaptation. But that’s what you get when you turn it into a Spielberg feel-good film. Yawn.
Lee
I really loved the Legend of the Guardians film and, honestly, had no idea it was based on a book!
Nemo
Yeah, it’s by an Aussie author and i’d really love to read them! i love the whole mythology behind the owls.
vmcarswell
Aw, I love Hook! Though I kind of see it almost as a “sequel.” Percy Jackson and Eragon are both on my worst lists. And Legend of the Guardians was such a beautiful movie! I haven’t read the book yet, but the movie was lovely. My TTT.

Nemo
Even so, I still think Hook is a bad adaptation. I’m so glad other people think Percy Jackson was a bad adaptation! it was NOTHING like the book!
dottleddolly
I thought the adaptions of Eragon and Inkheart could have been are a lot better but the rest are good. I forgot about Peter Pan.
Nemo
I really regretted wasting my time with those films.
dottleddolly
I’ve seen worse films, the only reason they were not terrible I think is because you were holding onto what the book was like and putting some of your feelings into the film.
Nemo
Actually I saw the films before I read the books.
dottleddolly
Ah, I cannot seem to do that, I do not enjoy the book if I watch the film first. I have a list of films still to watch because I still need to read the book.
the scarecrow
AAH! How to train your dragon! Toothless is so cute it makes me all warm and fuzzy in my tummy.
Nemo
Yeah he’s so adorable! I loves him. I need to watch the film again. The sequel is coming out next year argh!
